About the role 

The Social Research Consultant will have a key role in sustaining CIG’s reputation for rigor and evidence-based advisory support to clients. The candidate will be responsible for managing the data collection and management tasks at CIG and for supporting CIG project managers and consultant teams in the analysis and reporting of data.

Minimum competencies and requirements:

  • Post-graduate university degree in a social sciences discipline
  • Between 7 and 10 years of experience performing qualitative and quantitative social research
  • Advanced expertise in survey design, data collection and management, and statistical methods of analysis
  • Competency with programs such as Qualtrics, Fulcrum, R, Shiny and PowerBI – in addition to Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in conducting fieldwork in emerging economies
  • Experience in remote management of field teams in emerging economies
  • Experience in a relevant area within the field of corporate social performance, such as social impact assessment, livelihoods restoration monitoring, monitoring and evaluation of social investment projects
  • Exceptional English writing skills and demonstrated experience in editing and quality assurance of English-language documents
  • Demonstrated ability to make sense of complex information and distil into essential points, adapting to the audience’s background and understanding of the client’s organisational context 
  • Resilient, adaptable and a team player capable of working under pressure and independently 
  • Willingness to travel internationally for assignments
  • Experience in working in a cross-cultural context, with cultural self-awareness, including demonstrated awareness of the effect of own background and norms on how information and social contexts are interpreted
  • Ability to make realistic estimates about resources and time needed to achieve assignment goals
  • Experience in implementing social research ethics procedures and adherence to GPDR
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity in all assignments, by ensuring the rights and interests of vulnerable stakeholders are considered
