Gabriela is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has worked with both environmental and social issues related to mining and energy projects in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Greenland.
Gabriela has provided social performance services and conducted Environmental and Social Due Diligencefor a broad range of sectors, assessing and advisingon compliance with IFC performance standards and other international sector-specific guidelines. On behalf of donor and financing organisations e.g. Danida, Finida, Sida, UNEP and World Bank, Gabriela has developed and provided training and capacity building programs for community organisations, NGOs, technical staff and governmental officers in human rights, ecosystems services, gender mainstreaming, and other environmental and social issues related to large projects.
Gabriela is passionate about participatory and empowering methodologies and process, applying these for more than 15 years in the development of stakeholder engagement plans, social baselines and impact assessments, design and evaluation of community development plans and social investment strategies for extractive, wind energy and waste projects. She is particularly interested in integrated and holistic approaches to impact assessment and has applied sustainable livelihoods, ecosystem services and human rights frameworks in her work. Gabriela is strongly committed to formalisation and certification efforts towards sustainable and responsible Artisanal and Small Scale Mining producers and communities.
Gabriela holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark and holds qualifications in gender and health impact assessment. She is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and Danish and speaks some Portuguese.
